Duties

Summary -

The Underwriter Trainee will participate in a training program which will include learning basic insurance knowledge, interaction with departments, and PHLY product training. A portion of the training program will involve shadowing of current Underwriters.

A typical day will include the following:

Evaluates accident insurance applications to determine the risk involved: assists in deciding to accept or reject the application; assists in determining appropriate premium.

Interacts with and learns the role of other groups (marketing, loss control, claims, administration, etc.)

Assists in determining the acceptability, conditions and pricing of specific accident insurance risks and associated coverage.

Maintains familiarity with the products, services, priorities and target markets in the accident & property & casualty line of business or insurance segment.

Maintains familiarity with the loss experience and business conditions of key accounts as well as loss trends and any major legal or economic factors affecting the property & casualty line of business.

Communicates effectively with colleagues in underwriting, marketing and all support areas in order to meet the accident & property & casualty insurance needs of customers.

May accompany senior underwriter or marketing representative on appointments in assigned territory.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Ability to establish and build healthy working relationships and partnerships with clients, vendors, and peers
  • Basic knowledge of insurance
  • Analytical and problem solving mindset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and interested in learning the insurance field
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
