Duties

We are looking for a Surety Underwriting Specialist to join our Surety Contract team.

Summary -

Under limited direction, independently underwrites and markets assigned products by providing high levels of risk assessment and technical underwriting expertise to determine underwriting acceptability.  May provide high level of financial analysis to determine credit quality.


A typical day will include the following:
 

  • Conducts analysis and applies appropriate underwriting techniques necessary to make an accurate evaluation of acceptability of risk.  May evaluate credit quality.
  • Prepares and participates in marketing activities within the region to promote the development of new business.
  • Participates in the producer management process which may include but is not limited to, premium collections.
  • Prepares underwriting submissions, making recommendations and/or decisions within established authority limits. Minimum authority is $1,750,000 (Surety).
  • May ensure credit quality of accounts managed while maintaining and updating underwriting files.
  • Prepares and participates in proposals to producers and/or accounts negotiating terms and conditions.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting, strongly preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Minimum of 2-5 years bond/credit risk-analysis or Surety Underwriting experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Surety Contract Underwriting experience.
  • Experience as a commercial loan officer or an accountant a strong plus
  • Experience growing a book of business
  • Experience with client relationship management
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Solid multitasking skills and the ability to meet hard deadlines on multiple proposals, accounts and projects
  • Excellent reporting skills
  • Ability and background to be easily trained
